Stop the Quarry

How you could help

We need to fight these plans until they are abandoned.

We are appealing to everyone, especially all past and present students, scholars and alumni of Oxford.  If you have loved this city in the past, please help us to save it now.  If Railtrack are upheld in their draconian interpretation of the laws which they quote, then almost no place in the land would be safe from industrial development.   Any utility, Rail, Electricity, Gas, Water, could own a piece of land close to your local treasured beauty spot or area of tranquil refuge.  They could then claim that this land was essential for their operational needs and use it to site a noisy quarry, or storage depot, or dumping ground for disused machinery, without even having to secure planning permission from the local authority.

Please help us to fight these proposed plans.

blt.gif (899 bytes) You can e-mail Railtrack with your objections at internet.railtrack@ems.rail.co.uk

blt.gif (899 bytes) Write to the chairman, Sir Robert Horton, Railtrack plc, Railtrack House, Euston Square, London NW1 2EE, or telephone 0171 557 8110.

blt.gif (899 bytes) Alternatively, write to John Prescott MP at the House of Commons, London SW1A 0AA, who in his capacity as Secretary of State for Transport, Environment and the Regions may have a pivotal role in the outcome of this dispute.

The more individual protests which are raised at this development, the more chance we stand of being listened to.

Any offers of help to continue this fight and to spread our campaign to a wider audience would be very welcome.  And of course, we would also welcome any financial help to promote our advertising campaign.

Remember, however beautiful the area in which you live, however cherished your environment, under this legislation you may not be able to protect it.  We think it is a cause which affects everyone.  Please support us now.

Any donations would be gratefully received.  Please send them to ‘Stop The Quarry Campaign’, 81 Sunningwell Road, Oxford OX1 4SY
